1 Nephi 10:4; “Yea, even six hundred years from the time that my father left Jerusalem, a prophet would the Lord God raise up among the Jews—even a Messiah, or, in other words, a Savior of the world.”
Alma 13:25; “And now we only wait to hear the joyful news declared unto us by the mouth of angels, of his coming; for the time cometh, we know not how soon. Would to God that it might be in my day; but let it be sooner or later, in it I will rejoice.”
2 Timothy 4:3-4; “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
Paul was put in place at the time he was to nourish and water the newly planted churches. Part of his duty was to encourage new teachers and remind them of things they’d encounter in their ministries.
Paul told the leaders there would be some in the flock, including other leaders, who would come in and start spinning some heretical tale to run people’s faith into a ditch of lies. There were a lot of false teachers at the time who were out trying to make a quick buck at the expense of the unknowing.
Baptisms for the dead, the magician Simon who came in performing magic tricks so people could receive the Holy Spirit, and even the Judiaizers who tried to convince everyone you couldn’t get salvation for free.
Fast forward 1.800 years and this is precisely what happened to people who joined Mormonism. Out of their sincere desire of looking for God they had the misfortune of running into a group of ner’er-do-wells who had their own set of ideas to intentionally mislead and trick people into believing a lie.
If the BoM was true then why wouldn’t one of its premiere prophets know what the founder of the Nephite nation had said in “scripture”?
