3 Nephi 14:16; “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”
Matthew 7:16; “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”
According to the horticultural page at Purdue University figs were first planted on the American continent in Mexico in 1560. They made their way north up through the coast of California in 1769.
In order for the fig to flourish successfully one needs a certain type of wasp in order to pollinate the flower and grow figs.
When there are no Smyrna wasps, there are no figs. Now the Mormons can say they didn’t claim to have fig trees so my response would be; “then how would they know what they are in this verse and why did he say this?”
The other item of interest here is how Nephi continued to plagiarize Matthew again. How would Nephi know what Matthew said? They couldn’t Tweet or text or e-mail each other so how did this happen?
