D&C 35:10-12; “And the time speedily cometh that great things are to be shown forth unto the children of men; But without faith shall not anything be shown forth except desolations upon Babylon, the same which has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. And there are none that doeth good except those who are ready to receive the fulness of my gospel which I have sent forth unto this generation.”
Galatians 4:4-5; “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”
The only time God waits is when He waits for us to come to Him. He doesn’t institute His plan based on whether or not we’ll respond. He’s done these things regardless of our actions. He sent Jesus at the time He knew would be best. He sent Moses and Joshua when He knew it would be best. And on it goes throughout the history of mankind.
God is and has always been the time-keeper, not man. If God’s blessings were predicated on our good behavior He’d still be waiting for us to come out of the time-out chair.
This “prophecy” of Joseph Smith was nothing more than a dangling carrot for those waiting on his next scheme. In my Doctrine and Covenants it says the following in the preface for this prophecy: “…How men may become sons of God – Sidney [Rigdon] is promised that through him the Holy Ghost shall be given, as by the Apostles of old – Directed to assist the Prophet Joseph, and assured of the eventual redemption of Israel”.
The Bible says God sent the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost – Acts 1:8.
The Bible says by faith in Christ we are children of God – Galatians 3:26.
So which story do you believe?
