Ensign, “The Beatitudes: Pattern for Coming unto Christ, December 1987, pg 8; “God’s mercy comes from his unlimited and unconditional love for us. Likewise, we should show mercy to others because of our unlimited and unconditional love for them. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, loves us – not because we deserve it, but because we are his brothers and sisters and he has sacrificed for us. Our parents love us – not because we deserve it, but because they have sacrificed for us.” – Robert Wells
Hebrews 2:11-12;“For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.”
First of all, the Mormon god does not have unconditional love for the people. Unconditional love of God is a relatively new teaching in Mormonism. The love you receive from the Mormon god is predicated on performance. If you do his laundry list of things to get saved he likes you and will give the opportunity to become a god. If not, well, you’re out.
Secondly, Jesus is not our brother in the literal sense of the word as they’re trying to suggest. Remember, we’re adopted by God to become sons and daughters. We’re not spiritually or literally begotten by God in a sexual way at all.
Also notice what Paul said in Romans 8:23, 29 and Ephesians 1:5;
“And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
1:5; “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.”
The Greek word for brethren is adelphos. It means brother in the literal or figurative sense.
Jesus even took the opportunity to teach those around Him about the new type of family God was putting together in Matthew 12:50; “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
Are you literally Jesus’ mother? The whole passage from vss 46-50 Jesus asked who His mother was when the people told Him his family wanted to speak with Him. He told the crowd that everyone was His mother, brother, sister, etc. So I ask again – if we are included in that passage are you literally His mother? I know I’m not! Nor am I His brother or sister.
God did not come down here and have sex with Mary to beget Jesus and God didn’t have sex in heaven to spiritually beget Jesus as a spirit before the earth was formed. There’s simply no biblical basis for such theories and to teach otherwise is of Satan.
And after all that there’s the issue of why Jesus died for us. Sin. That’s why!
This man also said; “Our parents love us – not because we deserve it, but because they have sacrificed for us”. Just think about that for a moment. Does this make sense to you? Shouldn’t that read they sacrifice for us because of their love?
