Three Degrees of Glory, pg 11; “The eternity of the marriage covenant ought to be understood by Latter-day Saints clearly to be the sealing of at least one woman to one man for time and for all eternity.” – Melvin Joseph Ballard
Matthew 19:4; “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female.”
There isn’t one single verse in all of the Bible where Jesus condones polygamy or mentions “wives” of a righteous man. When we read Paul’s epistles we see how he warns those in church authority that people they put in charge should only have one wife.
So where in the Bible does it say we’re going to be married forever or there will be eternal sex and men will have multiple partners? This sounds more like a Sodom and Gomorrah story than it does heaven! It also sounds they’re prostituting the men as well as the women.
I’ve always believed the Swedenborg organization should look into copyright infringements against the Church. Multiple levels of heaven, marriage for eternity and polygamy in heaven all smacks of their organization. And what do you know, it was one of the hot topics in Joseph’s day – my, what a surprise!
Oh my!! You brought up one of my other favorite cults – The Church of the New Jerusalem! Have always wanted to talk to a former new churchman and hear his/her take on things. I knew that some of their beliefs on marriage were out of the norm, but had never put it and Mormonism together. Thanks!
