Today is the Day of Salvation
How Wide the Divide, pp. 72-73; “In the LDS view the fullness of the gospel is ultimately necessary to salvation, but not necessarily in this life. I personally have many, many non-LDS friends, some of whom dislike my faith very much, with whom I fully expect to sit down along with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the Kingdom of heaven.” – BYU Professor Stephen E. Robinson
2 Corinthians 6:2; “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)”
There are a couple of issues that need attention in this dilemma so let’s look at ALL of this man’s statement.
First of all there is no other time or day in which we are saved except for the here and now! This theory is but one of many where Mormonism drives itself off the proverbial cliff of Christian reason. There are no baptisms for the dead, no proxy marriages for the dead and certainly no godhood status for anyone – dead or alive!
The second problem was his idea that he and his friends will be hanging out with each other at the end is not biblically based and has no foundation. Back in the ‘90’s there was an ongoing and somewhat “lively” debate between some evangelical ministers and the Mormon Church who were looking for solidarity between the two groups. There were lots of seminars, radio shows, debates, etc that filled our airwaves and heads with these two groups wanting to showcase all the similarities of Mormonism and Christianity.
Some Christians thought it was time to bury the hatchet that evangelicals in the body of Christ had wielded and at the same time many Mormons jumped on the same bandwagon throwing their arms around new found friends.
Then there were those of us in the body of Christ who stood back wondering what was going on.
Personally I hadn’t lost as much as many of my brothers and sisters in Christ lost for the sake of following Jesus. While most everyone in my family disowned me and I began receiving death threats, I still had my life, albeit a very different one than I’d had before!
I recall when this phenomenon was taking place and wondering if Christianity and Mormonism are so much alike then why did I go to all the trouble of denouncing my heritage? What did Jesus really mean or intend when He said He came here not to bring peace and to expect dissensions in the family?
No God-fearing believer should expect to sit down with non-believers at the end to sup at the table with Abraham and Joseph Smith. When did God ever ordain evil to co-exist with righteousness?
This professor has not spoken truth! There’s no other day of salvation except for today and God isn’t going to allow evil in heaven where only the righteous dwell.
