Freemasons, Mormonism & Universalism
Morals & Dogma, pgs 277, 525; “[Masonry] … sees in Moses … in Confucius and Zoroaster, in Jesus of Nazareth, and in [Mohammed] great teachers of morality and eminent reformers….” – Albert Pike
An Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, pgs 618-619; “Freemasonry is not Christianity … it admits men of every creed within its hospitable bosom….” – Albert G. Mackey
History of the Church 4:550, 552; “Tuesday, 15.—I officiated as grand chaplain at the installation of the Nauvoo Lodge of Free Masons, at the Grove near the Temple. Grand Master Jonas, of Columbus, being present, a large number of people assembled on the occasion…. 552 Wednesday, March 16.—I was with the Masonic Lodge and rose to the sublime degree.”
Journal of Discourses 11:375; “”Mormonism,” so-called, embraces every principle pertaining to life and salvation, for time and eternity. No matter who has it. If the infidel has got truth it belongs to “Mormonism.”… The truth and sound doctrine possessed by the sectarian world, and they have a great deal, all belong to this church…There is no truth but what belongs to the gospel. It is life, eternal life; it is bliss; it is the fullness of all things in the gods and in the eternities of the gods.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, April 8, 1867
John 14:6; “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Mormonism mirrors the Unitarian and Universalism movements. Everyone who’s nice to the neighbor or who treats animals with kindness gets to go to heaven. Never mind that you don’t believe in what Jesus taught or that God is a righteous and holy God, as far as they’re concerned these things doesn’t matter all that much.
Isn’t it interesting that Mormonism would “embrace” all that’s “true” in every philosophy yet hold its members to such an opposite standard?
I’ve included the info from the Lodge to give insight as to where Smith and friends got one of their ideologies from. Zoroaster, Confucius, Mohammed, and every other religious leader in the history of mankind were probably nice to their friends too, so why are their philosophies okay in Smith’s eyes when Jesus says otherwise?
Jesus wasn’t as tolerant in His viewpoints on heaven. He preached monotheism that came directly from His Father.
