The Miracle of Forgiveness, p 165; “To “try” is weak. To “do the best I can” is not strong. We must always do better than we can”. – Spencer W. Kimball
1 John 1:9; “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
The English language leaves me searching for words to describe the pain in my soul over the LDS teaching today. What I have found in Christianity is an unparalleled gratitude for not only what Jesus did on my behalf, but for everyone including Mormons.
I feel that Oswald Chambers words describes the process of forgiveness best –
My Utmost for His Highest, November 19; “Forgiveness doesn’t merely mean that I am saved from hell and have been made ready for heaven (no one would accept forgiveness on that level). Forgiveness means that I am forgiven into a newly created relationship which identifies me with God in Christ. The miracle of redemption is that God turns me, the unholy one, into the standard of Himself, the Holy One. He does this by putting into me a new nature, the nature of Jesus Christ.” – Oswald Chambers
If we can’t rely upon Him who can forgive and holds all things in His hands then where else would I/we turn? I’ve lived long enough in this world to know that any attempt on my part to do well is for naught and I’ve lived long enough to know what the blessed assurance of forgiveness comes because of what He’s done.
The change of heart I experience and witness in my life is from the Holy Spirit’s work inside of me because as the Bible says in Jeremiah 17:9 – the heart of man is evil!
