It’s a sad day for Seattle as far as I’m concerned.
I know there’s sin in the world and I also know this country (and the world too) is going down a steep road really fast. Got it. I’ve just been noticing a trend of sorts in the last couple of years with living in Seattle that I find interesting. It seems whenever something outrageous is passed as law here, the country tends to follow right along.
First it was getting the abortion pills (Plan B) into the hands of those seeking them. Then it was the protests for higher minimum wages. Those things started over a year ago and then we began seeing other protests around the country. Then it was same-sex marriage laws, then legalizing smoking dope.
Today Seattle is expecting its largest ever crowd to witness the swearing in of its new Mayor Ed Murray. Mr. Murray is the city’s first openly gay mayor who was married last summer to his long time partner. He’ll be taking office as soon as the ceremonial swearing in has taken place.
In addition to that bad news, he’ll be working alongside the newly elected City Councilmember Kshama Sawant who’s a diehard Socialist and helped pass a local law that minimum wage shouldn’t be any less than $15/hr. We found it interesting back in November during the elections when the news interviewed an EMT who’d gone through 24 months of training and said he was only earning $13/hr and kids in high school working at a fast food job will now earn more than he does. A Socialist…really? Why? Why would you push socialism or even endorse such a thing here in America? What happened to America? Socialism is a half step away from Communism – I’ve lived in Europe and their government isn’t pretty.
The city’s answer to drumming up money for the higher wage problem is to raise taxes and fees on food, hotels, groceries, gas, bus fares, etc. Yeah…that sounds reasonable doesn’t it?
So along with smoking dope, being married to whomever or whatever you want to be married to and raising rates on everything from food to fuel, electing Socialists, Seattle’s turning a blind eye to God. Of course up here the Lord’s name is taken in vain and pushed aside as hogwash.
Just ask Bill Nye “the science guy” about creationism whose humble beginnings at Boeing as a mechanical engineer led him to doing skits on a local late-night television program here called Almost Live. His latest gig on Youtube and schools around the country push the message of telling parents that creationism is garbage. It’s no wonder with one of his professors being Carl Sagan.
The other problem with Seattle this week is what’s going on at one of the private Catholic schools. The week before Christmas break they fired their vice-principle for violating his contract. This started a firestorm and if what the students and their supporters have promised you can look for widespread protests to take place across the country.
The problem? School administrators found out the vice-principle got married to his male friend which violated the contract he signed with the school. Never mind that he’s in the wrong legally speaking, what about biblically speaking? Why was this man fulfilling a role in his public life that completely belied what he was doing in his private life? Does he not have a conscience?
Let’s cut to the chase here – this is a matter of not fulfilling a contract and when you live in a state with a law that you can be fired for no reason at all doesn’t it stand to reason this guy is in the wrong? Who cares that he’s gay (well, that’s for another time), this is about being legally responsible. So when you start hearing about the protests, now you’ll know the truth behind the story.
While the much of the country is in a deep freeze right now, folks up this way are lacking in the vitamin-D category. I’m still convinced people here have let their brains get soggy and they’re not opening their windows to prevent deadly mold from setting in…
As Christians we need to hang tight and rejoice! Thank You Jesus I’m safe in Your Kingdom!
