Discourses of Brigham Young, pp.50-51; “We are the sons and daughters of celestial Beings, and the germ of the Deity dwells within us. When our spirits took possession of these tabernacles, they were as pure as the angels of God, wherefore total depravity cannot be a true doctrine.” – Brigham Young
Romans 5:23; “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”. [emphasis mine]
The Hebrew word for all is pas. It means all the forms of declension meaning all, any, every, whole, anyone, everyone, thoroughly, whatsoever, and whosoever.
The text doesn’t say anything about a “germ of deity” dwelling inside of me and I can back this up by what Paul goes on to say in Romans 7:18; “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not”.
If I can’t find anything in me to do good where is that germ of deity? Wouldn’t the goddess rise up and shine forth? The Bible says there is no other god besides Him – there was none before Him, beside Him, nor will there be any after Him. Isaiah 43:10-11. So how could a deity reside inside of me?
Furthermore, if Brigham’s words were true then why were black people born wicked according to the Mormon Church? Abraham 3:27. How could they be born wicked people if everyone is as pure as the angels of God?
