As you may have heard TLC has decided to add another show about the modern polygamist lifestyle to its nightly schedule. The new show is titled “My Five Wives” and follows the life of Brady and his wives: Paulie, Robyn, Rosemary, Nonie and Rhonda as they experience the ups and downs of being a polygamist family.
If you’re like me you might be scratching your head at the notion of TLC airing another show about a lifestyle that’s illegal. It’s not only against the law of the land but it’s also against God’s law.
This is one reality show I won’t be watching. Just watching some of the clips from the show on the TLC site makes my stomach turn, and my heart break at the same time. I honestly don’t know what part of her brain a woman has to turn off in order to be able to live this lifestyle. It’s too reminiscent of my time as a Mormon where I was taught not to question anything, even the doctrine of plural marriage found in the Doctrine and Covenants 132.
As a Mormon I fully expected to have to practice this way of life in eternity. When I spoke to other Mormon women about it some didn’t like to think about it while others seemed ok with it. When I asked how they could be fine with sharing their husbands they would say something like “If Heavenly Father asked me to do it how could I refuse? If I knew another woman needed to be sealed to a worthy priesthood holder how could I be so selfish as to deny her this opportunity?”
God has made His plan, and His design for marriage very clear. And yet there are people, even many Christians who think just because society is changing its view of marriage that it somehow negates what God thinks of marriage.
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
In Christ,

Abhorrent….
Amen to that! I can’t imagine God ordaining such a thing! When we read what happened throughout the OT it’s obvious the god of Mormonism is not the same God of the Bible! This is a good reminder we as Christians need to pray not just for the Mormons but the unsaved in general and for protection over the younger generations.
BTW thanks for visiting LAM and commenting! 🙂 God bless!

Indeed the god of Mormonism is not the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. That being said, I can say that their commitment to family is beautiful – but they are severely deceived in their allegiance to the teachings of Joseph Smith and pagan practices (just take a look at all their rituals and symbols everywhere).
Thank you for your ministry and contending for the faith. Bless you!
Here is just one place the Bible talks about ONE wife… I’ve put 2 translations, the second easier to read and understand. No matter what, the Bible is translated from the original Hebrew and Greek; therefore, there is nothing whatsoever instructing polygamy as a way of life, let alone a way of salvation.

1 Corinthians 7
Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
7 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

1 Corinthians 7
English Standard Version (ESV)
Principles for Marriage
7 Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” 2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. 3 The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband.

For TLC to put programs on illustrating this life style is akin to promoting a banned, illegal act. Conversely, they look at it as sensationalism and drawing viewers, etc. and not as promotion.
Thank you for your comments Sue. You’re so right, it’s all about the drama, and from the clips I’ve seen of the show there’s going to be A LOT of drama. How could there not be?
