BYU Speeches, “Mortality and Our Eternal Journey,” January 14, 2003; “Excluding the Atonement, our purpose in coming to earth is the same as the Savior’s. He was born to be a king. If faithful, we also are promised thrones, kingdoms, and principalities (see D&C 132:19). Jesus’ kingdom was not of this world; neither is ours…” – BYU President Merrill J. Bateman
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14; “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil”.
Who could possibly be more wise than King Solomon? Outside of Jesus there hasn’t been a man who’s been wiser so when Solomon speaks we should listen!
It’s no mistake these two verses were placed at the very end of Ecclesiastes – take notice of how he wraps up his words of wisdom… He said “…the conclusion of the whole matter…” In other words he’s given us the Cliff note version and there’s nothing more to be said. It’s so cool how God works!
Our purpose isn’t to look for ways that we’ll be glorified or exalted and we see this reiterated in the apostle Paul’s outlook of all that he achieved when he compared all his earthly knowledge and accolades to rubbish. Phil 3:9-10.
I have a question for the Mormons –
If your focus is on becoming kings and queens then what part of your day is dedicated to worshiping King Jesus?
Will you replace Jesus?
If you say no then where is Jesus going to get new worshipers?
If you’ve become kings and queens then you’ll have your own worshipers so are they worshiping Jesus and if so how could they do this while worshiping you?
