The Story of the Mormons, Book 1, p 35; “…Daniel Hendrix relates that as he and Harris were riding to the village one evening, and he remarked on the beauty of the moon, Harris replied that if his companion could only see it as he had, he might well call it beautiful, explaining that he had actually visited the moon, and adding that it “was only the faithful who were permitted to visit the celestial regions.”…” – William A. Linn, 1902
Proverbs 28:26; “He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered”.
This snapshot of Martin Harris today is just ‘one more thing’ that speaks to his character and his witness for the Lord. Harris was notorious for his wild ideas and instability as a leader, man of God, father, husband…everything he did was tainted with trouble.
During his life he belonged to no less than 13 denominations and was extremely superstitious. If the flame from a burning candle flared up or moved he was certain the devil had done it.
You can read more about him in our article about the BoM Witnesses here.
Our point to bringing this up?
We’re wondering why Joe Smith would trust him as an apostle of God if Harris had this type of track record! Does it sound like Smith was inspired of God?
