Joseph Smith History 1:18-19; “My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join…19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.””
Jude 1:3; “ Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints”.
I’ve written and rewritten my rebuttal for this dilemma more times than I can count while trying to ask why there was a need for a restoration.
The bottom line in this is God’s word of course! As a Christian I’ll never tire of how God provides explicit directives for us for whatever scenario we’re in.
Notice Jude’s words. He said ‘the faith which was once delivered…” meaning it isn’t delivered in a different way in a ‘different dispensation’, nor is it titled ‘another testament’…
No! The gospel was delivered once so why would we need a restoration of something we already have? The gospel isn’t like a car or the latest tech gadget – it doesn’t need updating!
