Brigham Young Addresses, MS d 1234, Box 48, folder 3, LDS Church Historical Dept; “It is a great blessing to the seed of Adam to have the seed of Cain [the negro race] for servants.”
Romans 6:13; “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”
This passage of Paul’s writings would have been a great study for Brigham to delve into as it gives instruction for good leadership skills and admonishes those who were using their authority inappropriately.
Why is it okay to think that owning people is an attribute of godly behavior? My mother-in-law always tried to make excuses for people like this by telling me they were ‘old school’ and ‘times were different back then’.
The only thing that’s changed over time is the number of years that have passed by. People still behave poorly just as they did in the days of Adam. While the focus of their hatred has evolved over time, i.e. slavery, the tell-tale signs of pride are very apparent.
