Conference Report, October 1990, p 108; “Except where the wicked crime of incest or rape was involved, or where competent medical authorities certify that the life of the mother is in jeopardy, or that a severely defective fetus cannot survive birth, abortion is clearly a ‘thou shalt not.’ Even in these very exceptional cases, much sober prayer is required to make the right choice.” – Boyd K. Packer
Deuteronomy 27:25; “Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen.”
Here’s another example that the Church talks from both sides of its mouth. If abortion is wicked and evil why excuse it at all?
Is there any part of evil that’s acceptable? Do two wrongs make a right?
When I was in high school a classmate of mine had an older brother whose wife was expecting their first child. A few weeks after they found out she was pregnant she received the awful news of she had terminal cancer and the doctors told her they might be able to save her life if she had an abortion.
The young couple agreed to the procedure and tragically a month or two later she lost her battle to the disease. That scenario made a huge impression on my young mind and obviously continues to do so today some 30+ years later.
So what’s the take away here? The child would’ve died anyway right?
Are you ready to face the Lord at the end when you’ve taken the life of an innocent child on the chance you might live?
