General Conference, ‘Live According to the Words of the Prophets,’ October 2014; “Our Father in Heaven loves all of His children and desires that they know and understand His plan of happiness. Therefore, He calls prophets, those who have been ordained with power and authority to act in God’s name for the salvation of His children. They are messengers of righteousness, witnesses of Jesus Christ and the infinite power of His Atonement. They hold the keys of the kingdom of God on earth and authorize the performance of saving ordinances.” – Carol F. McConkie
Hebrews 7:24-25; “But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”
When Melissa sent this Mormon quote to me I had to read Ms. McConkie’s comments a few times and became convinced once again these people blather on just to hear their own voices.
So today we’re going to look at the key items she said real quick. We’re asking that you make note of them to use when speaking with your Mormon friends/loved ones. Mormons believe they’re the only people on earth with authority so sharing God’s truth with them will be of great benefit and give them something to investigate!
1.Ms. McConkie stated that God loves all his children, but not every single person on earth is a child of God. Mormons mistakenly believe that God sexually begat each spirit with one of his goddess wives, thus the ‘need’ to teach them about his plan of salvation and happiness. Biblically speaking, if you’re a child of God you already understand His plan of salvation. Jesus said you must be born again – John 3:3.
2.Every believer is ordained with power and authority from God to act in His name. We can preach (1 Cor 1:19), rebuke (Mt 18:15-20) and bless (1 Peter 3:9) those who come our way all through the authority of God.
3.NT era prophets are here to proclaim what has already been revealed. There are no new covenants, teachings or ordinances that need implementing as they’ve already been proclaimed.
4.Every believer holds the keys to the Kingdom of God and aren’t required to hold the position of a Mormon prophet or apostle. Jesus laid the foundation of His kingdom – Eph 2:20 – and Jesus gave us the authority to invite people into that kingdom (Mt 28:18-20). Those who reject Jesus’ grace are locked out of His kingdom – Acts 8:23. Because we’re not God we hold no power to say who does or doesn’t come in (Mt 23:13).
5.There is no such thing as a ‘saving ordinance’ for men to perform. The saving ordinance was taken care of by Jesus when He hung on that cross! Heb 7:24-25
