Conference Report, October 1965, pp 136-137; “The purpose of the gospel is to make bad men good, good men better, and to change human nature.” David O. McKay
Titus 2:11-14; “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
Romans 1:16; “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
John 20:31; “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
As Melissa pointed out when she sent me this quote – ‘so the Mormon gospel isn’t about Jesus’…
You’ll notice in our biblical examples of the gospel’s purpose, that each points to Jesus. In each example it highlights the power of God and it is through Christ we are saved by God.
Not one of our examples intimate that the gospel belongs to anyone but Christ. It doesn’t belong to the Mormons, nor does it belong to the Methodists, Lutherans, Baptists, or any manmade organization for that matter. It belongs to God because He is the author of it – not man.
Besides all that; of which Mormon gospel should we rely upon if his statement is truth? Is it the gospel of Joseph Smith’s day or Brigham Young’s day, the post-Manifesto era or anything after 1978 when they accepted blacks into the Church?
