BYU Religious Studies Center, “What the Book of Mormon Tells Us about Jesus Christ” in The Book of Mormon: The Keystone Scripture, pp 21-43; “In addition to the Bible we now have the Book of Mormon, which tells of Jesus’ personal ministry as a resurrected, glorified being among the ancient Nephites in America a few months after his ascension from among the Jews. It also reveals that Jesus said he was personally going to visit the ten lost tribes of Israel after he left the Nephites. We do not have the actual record of that event yet, but we will have it when the Lord sees fit. The Book of Mormon does not compete with the Bible, but is a second witness, sent forth by the Lord to prove that the Bible record is true…
…None of these things are spoken of in the biblical record because it informs us only of what happened among the Jews. Thus it is the Book of Mormon that gives us the wider viewpoint.” – Robert J. Matthews, 1988
2 Peter 3:15-16; “And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
The first thing we want to take note of is how they’ve referred to Jesus in the passage above and then ask yourself if this is the way you refer to our God and Savior. Describing Him as a glorified being is belittling the One True God of Israel. Why do they stoop to such levels?
‘…Jesus’ personal ministry as a resurrected, glorified being…’
Peter nicely summed up the thoughts of our Lord by telling us those who are unstable look for things that aren’t in scripture. They’ve made a mess of things by twisting scripture or adding their own thoughts to what our righteous God has imparted to us in His word. In so doing they’ve totally degraded Him by bringing Him down to man’s level.
Furthermore, the truth is that ‘none of these things are spoken of in the biblical record’ isn’t because He only ministered to the Jews. These things aren’t in our Bible because they’re not true!
God told us the next time we’d see Jesus He would come in the clouds and everyone would see Him and know. Revelation 1:7;
“Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.”
How did Jesus return and no one knew of it except for the unheard of people in Joe Smith’s book?
Did God lie to us?
