2 Chronicles 5:2; “Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.”
Jerusalem, Zion, City of David and City of God are all synonymous in the sense of location. It’s physically located in Israel and not Independence, Missouri.
Tragically, Mormons have bought the story of their leaders who peddled their wares of false prophecies and teachings.
The Lord Jesus will indeed return to Zion, of this there’s no doubt – Isaiah 2:1-4, but it obviously isn’t where LDS members have been tricked into believing. The Church has changed the meaning of many words and this is one of the cases where doing your homework is worth its weight in gold.
