Ensign, ‘The Reason for Our Hope,’ November 2014; “The Savior wrought the Atonement, which provides a way for us to become clean. Jesus Christ is the resurrected Christ. We worship and recognize Him for the pain He suffered for us collectively and for the pain He endured for each of us individually, both in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. He bore all with great humility and with an eternal understanding of His divine role and purpose.
Those who will repent and forsake sin will find that His merciful arm is outstretched still. Those who listen to and heed His words and the words of His chosen servants will find peace and understanding even in the midst of great heartache and sorrow. The result of His sacrifice is to free us from the effects of sin, that all may have guilt erased and feel hope.
Had He not accomplished the Atonement, there would be no redemption. It would be a difficult world to live in if we could never be forgiven for our mistakes, if we could never purify ourselves and move on.” – Boyd K. Packer
Leviticus 17:11; “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”
Hebrews 9:15-16; “For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.”
Catastrophic.
If I had one word to define this man’s awful talk, it’d be catastrophic. Think total devastation of an area after a tornado. That’s how bad his words are.
It reminded me of the tornados I lived through in Oklahoma in May 1999. I just so happened to be there for computer training when I worked for Ed Decker at Saints Alive. The one time they experienced the worst tornados ever recorded in the history of man, and I watched them march down the highways from my hotel room in Broken Arrow, OK, a suburb of Tulsa.
In 20 minutes everything in front of me was gone. And I mean everything. No houses were left, schools, hospitals and stores had disappeared. Family farms were simply wiped off the face of the earth. Destruction stretched from Oklahoma City to Tulsa; 110 miles away.
Mr. Packer’s talk has the same effect those tornados did in ’99, but this is worse because its effects are eternal. Chaos reigns as you try to salvage any little bit of something to make a cohesive explanation of his words and I’m still not convinced there’s anything in it worth salvaging…
While there’s a plethora of biblical verses we could use to refute the LDS teaching today, the passages in Leviticus and Hebrews seem befitting for the lies they’ve tried to slip through to the gullible patrons of the LDS faith, aka my mother. Remember: life is in the blood and testimonies are only good upon death.
This talk is a classic example of how LDS leaders will take a bunch of words and cram them all into one little box changing the meaning of the subject matter altogether. Let’s take a look at the 3 major points he made…
‘The Savior wrought the Atonement, which provides a way for us to become clean…’
‘We worship and recognize Him for the pain He suffered for us collectively and for the pain He endured for each of us individually, both in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross…’
‘It would be a difficult world to live in if we could never be forgiven for our mistakes, if we could never purify ourselves’
In English…
1.The Savior, aka JESUS, ‘wrought the atonement’ by bleeding in the Garden for Adam’s sin.
2.Irrespective of what scripture says Mormons believe that while the Savior was in Gethsemane he bled from every pore (Luke 22:44). This act covered Adam’s sin, but not ours. This act opened the door for us to work out our own salvation and repent of our individual sins.
3.Mormons do not believe in original sin.
4.Mormons believe everyone is born perfect and not accountable for personal sin until the age of 8 yrs old. D&C 29:46-47
5.Their 2nd Article of Faith explains that man will be punished for their own sins, not Adam’s transgressions.
6.Jesus’ time in Gethsemane not only covered Adam’s sin, it also afforded mankind the opportunity to purify him or herself while here on earth. This is known as ‘working out your own salvation’.
Truth:
1.The Savior, aka JESUS, ‘wrought the atonement’ by hanging on God’s altar known as the Cross at Calvary.
2.Jesus became sin which means He is the propitiation for me, you, my mother and yours.
3.Jesus was the Lamb slain for sin because God demands a price be paid for the sins of man. He was a spotless sacrifice without sin or blemish. Leviticus 4:35, 5:10 Jesus’ death provided forgiveness of our sin.
4.Where in the Bible did God ever say we’d be responsible for what Adam did in the Garden of Eden?
5.All men are born with an inherited sin nature from Adam. Romans 5:12.
6.Our beggin’ for mercy to forgive our sins today isn’t good enough. Personally, I’d be begging every day, all day long for the things I do on any given day. I’m in desperate need of His mercy to approach Him or even be seen by Him.
The animal sacrifice in the OT included the death of the animal which provided a covering over our sins. Jesus being the Paschal Lamb John 1:29 for us didn’t just cover our sins, He washed them away. This couldn’t have happened without His death. The sacrifice required death.
Jesus became our sin and died in our place. Our sinful selves deserve nothing but death, yet God in His love for us, gave up His Son so we wouldn’t have to receive our just reward. 2 Corinthians 5:21 He died for our sins and was raised for our justification. Romans 4:24-25
As we’ve stated countless times before, the Church rejects the blood of Jesus on the cross.
They’ve tried to hide their catastrophic news that you have to earn your own way to heaven. If you believe their gospel, you better start hoping now that you’ve begged enough to be forgiven.
Catastrophe. That’s what the Mormon plan of salvation is.
