Hosea Stout Utah’s Pioneer Statesman, p 234; “One of the great triumphs of Mormonism was the discovery that the Book of Mormon was indeed an authentic history of ancient North and South America. In a great speech delivered in the Tabernacle (January 2), Orson Pratt announced to the world that there was more evidence proving the authenticity of the Book of Mormon than there was for the Bible! The irony of this truth lay in the fact that non-Mormon scientists were making these discoveries!”
Titus 1:16; “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.”
If you read the rest of Mr. Stout’s diary entry you’ll find no other information to back up the claims of Orson Pratt.
Pratt was making up feel-good stories from his pulpit with no way to back up his claims, thereby making himself a liar and we see that Stout just went along with the charade, passing the lies to another audience.
And I believe time has shown his statements to be false. After all these years and still no evidence to support the BOM. The Bible on the other hand is used even be non-Christians as a historical reference because so many things have been shown to be accurate.
I just looked up the information on Bountiful… oh, they never found it. Okay! I’ll look up NatGeo info on Zarahemla… oh, they never found that either. What in the world was Mr. Stout and Mr. Pratt thinking of? And to my knowledge, this info is STILL being taught to LDS members! Try this…. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Book_of_Mormon_places
Start looking them up. The ones mentioned in the Bible, why, YES… they’re there. The ones mentioned only in the BoM… Hmmm…. no sign of them.
Kind of reminds you of Bill Nye celebrating after being humiliated live by Ken Ham! “We’re number one!” “but you lost!” “We’re number one!”
The ability to self delude is amazing. This is why Christianity emphasizes trust in God, Jesus Christ, the holy Spirit and the Scriptures… believe in that, and you can never go wrong.
This is one of the things that shocked me when I became a Christian. I wanted to study and learn more, but in the beginning I wondered if it was from a rebellious nature or if it was from the HS prompting me to find the truth. It didn’t take long to figure that one out – PTL! 🙂
