In addition to our new monthly series, Discovering Grace, Melissa & I thought we’d also post a series we’re calling What Do You Think? We’ll be looking at various topics from world and national events, to the latest fads we see going on in the body of Christ.
With that in mind here’s our first question –
Earlier today I was the recipient of a mass e-mail urging all Christians to drop everything they’re doing this weekend and go see the latest ‘Christian’ movie, “Little Boy”.
If you haven’t heard about it yet, a link is provided here.
After watching a few trailers on the movie and reading over its theme, I personally think it’s a dangerous thing for anyone calling themselves a Christian to promote the movie based on the content. One of the trailers I watched showed the star of the show (a little boy) using witchcraft like powers to move a mountain.
The movie is about a little boy whose father went away to war and desperately missing his father, wanted him home. Numerous people in the community empathized with the boy and told him ‘if you have enough faith you can move mountains’. The child then stuck both arms out towards the mountain and with the magic of Hollywood, the mountain actually left the place God had planted it.
Now, I’m fully aware it’s Hollywood. However, I’m also fully aware that God condemns participating in powers from sources other than Himself. We can ask God for strength to make it through our day, and we can ask God to heal us. A definitive line is crossed when we participate in using magical powers to invoke something to happen just because we want it bad enough. Off the top of my head there are a handful of things I desperately want to be different, but our job is to wait on Him and not resort to other methods.
What do you think?
