History of the Church 2:191; “John F. Boynton’s Blessing:—Thou hast prevailed and thou shalt prevail, and thou shalt declare the Gospel unto
many nations. Thou shalt be made mighty before God; and although thou shalt be cast out from the face of men, yet thou shalt have power to prevail. Thou shalt lead the elect triumphantly to the places of refuge; thou shalt be like the brethren who have been blessed before thee. Thou shalt stand in that day of calamity when the wicked shall be consumed, and present unto the Father, spotless, the fruits of thy labor. Thou shalt overcome all the evils that are in the world; thou shalt have wisdom to put to silence all the wisdom of the wise; and thou shalt see the face of thy Redeemer in the flesh. These blessings are pronounced and sealed upon thee. Even so. Amen.” – February 15, 1835
Deuteronomy 13:1-5; “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. 5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.”
Oops, that didn’t work out so well! I came across a post on Ed Decker’s site (www.saintsalive.com) pointing out a false prophecy about John F. Boynton which was a good reminder of what Smith was doing in the early days of the Church and how most of his shenanigans didn’t come to pass, as they say.
If you’re not aware of who Boynton was, don’t feel bad, you’re not alone!
Boynton was one of Joe Smith’s original twelve apostles and he absconded through apostatizing from the ‘one and only true church on the face of the earth’. So much for the idea he’d overcome all the evils of the world…
As I began wondering about this fellow I also began wondering about all the other ‘God-ordained’ men at the time…
Did you know?
Of the twelve apostles Smith called to serve, eight apostatized.
EIGHT!
In addition to this little fiasco, one apostle (Parley Pratt) was killed by a jealous husband.
Another (David Patten) was killed in a battle at Crooked River even though it was prophesied he’d live to see Christ’s return. As a reminder, Patten is the same guy who claimed he saw Cain, aka Bigfoot, while out riding on his mule.
The two remaining apostles ordained at the time were Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball.
Speaking of apostasy…
The not-so-godly apostles weren’t the only high-ranking Mormons to get axed from the Church. All three witnesses to the BoM were booted out as well. If Smith was inspired by God to ordain these men, how do you explain all the calamities?
Things are often not as they seem. This prophecy from Joseph will yet be fulfilled.
Oh,truthworks, no it won’t. Joseph Smith was/is a false prophet. He failed, and doesn’t pass the test. God created a way for people to recognize a true prophet from a false one, and Smith doesn’t measure up. Wake up to the truth before it’s too late. – Melissa Grimes
