Doctrine and Covenants 84:4-5; “Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, September 22 and 23, 1832…Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which temple shall be reared in this generation. 5 For verily this generation shall not all pass away until an house shall be built unto the Lord, and a cloud shall rest upon it, which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which shall fill the house.”
Psalm 6:5; “For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?”
People in my family have been blessed with long lives. In fact when anyone dies before the age of 90, their comments are always the same; ‘Oh, they died so young!’. I always have to laugh at their reactions, but I’m less than amused when I see Smith’s false prophecies like this one today.
As of June 2015, it’s been 183 years since he uttered this false prophecy! Who do you know that’s living today and was alive in 1832?
Let’s look at the lies in this one false prophecy –
1.’The city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place…’
As noted above, those who were living then are long gone today. They didn’t build the new Jerusalem.
2.One year into his prophet-hood Smith pronounced his 50th false prophecy. No temple was built in MO before Smith died in 1844. For more info on this see article 120+ False Prophecies of Joseph Smith here.
3.‘…a cloud shall rest upon it, which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which shall fill the house…’
God’s presence is not in a cloud. His Spirit resides inside each person who calls Him Lord – John 14:16-18. God’s presence in a cloud is from the OT era, not now.
4.In addition to the above info, we’re also wondering why they’re building temples to perform works for the dead in light of what God says in His word?
