Times and Seasons 6:956, April 6, 1845 “God knew that old Abraham could not build a temple, therefore he said unto him, go to the mountain I shall tell thee of, and there offer up your sacrifice. He tells us to build an house here in this place [Nauvoo], according to our means. And when we get a little more strength, he will say, go now and execute you means upon the next house we have got to build, and it is just stretch our faith until it shall become exceeding great, that we can command the elements and they will obey. And when we get into Jackson county to walk in the courts of that house, we can say we built this temple for as the Lord lives we will build up Jackson county in this generation, (cries of amen,) and we will be far better off with regard to temporal things, when we have done, than ever we were before.” — Brigham Young [emp. added] (more…)

Doctrine and Covenants 57:2-5; “Wherefore, this is the land of promise, and the place for the city of Zion. 3 And thus saith the Lord your God, if you will receive wisdom here is wisdom. Behold, the place which is now called Independence is the center place; and a spot for the temple is lying westward, upon a lot which is not far from the courthouse. 4 Wherefore, it is wisdom that the land should be purchased by the saints.. Behold, this is wisdom, that they may obtain it for an everlasting inheritance.”
False Prophecy #50 for Joseph Smith

Doctrine and Covenants 84:4-5; “Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, September 22 and 23, 1832…Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which temple shall be reared in this generation. 5 For verily this generation shall not all pass away until an house shall be built unto the Lord, and a cloud shall rest upon it, which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which shall fill the house.”
Psalm 6:5; “For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?”
People in my family have been blessed with long lives. In fact when anyone dies before the age of 90, their comments are always the same; ‘Oh, they died so young!’. I always have to laugh at their reactions, but I’m less than amused when I see Smith’s false prophecies like this one today.
As of June 2015, it’s been 183 years since he uttered this false prophecy! Who do you know that’s living today and was alive in 1832?
Let’s look at the lies in this one false prophecy –
1.’The city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place…’
As noted above, those who were living then are long gone today. They didn’t build the new Jerusalem.
2.One year into his prophet-hood Smith pronounced his 50th false prophecy. No temple was built in MO before Smith died in 1844. For more info on this see article 120+ False Prophecies of Joseph Smith here.
3.‘…a cloud shall rest upon it, which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which shall fill the house…’
God’s presence is not in a cloud. His Spirit resides inside each person who calls Him Lord – John 14:16-18. God’s presence in a cloud is from the OT era, not now.
4.In addition to the above info, we’re also wondering why they’re building temples to perform works for the dead in light of what God says in His word?

Takeover of Salem, Mass.
D&C 111:2-5; “I have much treasure in this city for you, for the benefit of Zion, and many people in this city, whom I will gather out in due time for the benefit of Zion, through your instrumentality. 3 Therefore, it is expedient that you should form acquaintance with men in this city, as you shall be led, and as it shall be given you. 4 And it shall come to pass in due time that I will give this city into your hands, that you shall have power over it, insomuch that they shall not discover your secret parts; and its wealth pertaining to gold and silver shall be yours. 5 Concern not yourselves about your debts, for I will give you power to pay them.”

New Jerusalem
D&C 84:2-3; “Yea, the word of the Lord concerning his church, established in the last days for the restoration of his people, as he has spoken by the mouth of his prophets, and for the gathering of his saints to stand upon Mount Zion, which shall be the city of New Jerusalem. 3 Which city shall be built, beginning at the temple lot, which is appointed by the finger of the Lord, in the western boundaries of the State of Missouri, and dedicated by the hand of Joseph Smith, Jun., and others with whom the Lord was well pleased.”
