This year, 2015, marks the 158th ‘anniversary’ of a tragedy in Utah history I’m sure Mormons would rather forget. If you’re unfamiliar with the event, you can read about it in an article on our front page you can access here.
Today we’re asking Christians to pray that Mormons will be aware of this ugly scar on their church’s history, and question why this happened.
Why would a so-called man of God, aka prophet, and the leader of a huge church,, order the slaughter of innocent people (Christians and children at that)?
This is but one of the very questionable events Brigham Young either orchestrated, or condoned when he was in power over the LDS Church.
The purpose in bringing this up isn’t to sensationalize this horrific tragedy, rather it’s to prompt Mormons of today to think about the actions of the leader they put so much emphasis on. Residents of Utah have named universities, other schools, and cities, and even their own kids after this guy so he obviously holds a prominent place in their culture.
We’re praying they accept all of Brigham’s history, and not just a selected version of what makes them feel good. After all, I can’t imagine the events of Mountain Meadows producing a feel good memory for anyone.
With Love in Christ;

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints(Mormons) are aware of this terrible tragedy that never should have happened. Words can not express our deepest sorrow for the lives lost at the hands of those who professed to be followers of Christ. However, you may be interested in more insight into this terrible day. http://www.ldsliving.com/5-Things-Mormons-Should-Know-about-the-Mountain-Meadows-Massacre/s/79809
MKC –
Thanks for visiting the site! I want to clarify a few things for the readers though.
I went to the link you provided and I have to say the analysis provided by LDS Living is rather lopsided, if you will.
1.The Church’s problem w/ obeying the law shouldn’t have anything to do w/ people driving cattle thru the territory who meant no harm to the Mormon people.
2.There is ample evidence proving members of the Church did indeed have their fingerprints all over the crime scene, contrary to the article’s statement.
3.Brigham Young was in fact the instigator of the nefarious deed. After at least 2 retrials no one would voluntarily testify against Brigham Young, fearing his reprisal.
4.There was only one person left holding the bag for the Mountain Meadows Massacre and that was John Doyle Lee. You can read about this in our article on the front page in the ‘Blood Atonement Quotes’. Scroll down for the link to what he had to say just before they executed him. http://lifeafterministry.com/blood-atonement-quotes/
As I mentioned in the article you commented on, we’re praying that all Mormons would read all of the evidence, not just the faith promoting side of it.
