Ah, the ever popular Moroni 10:4 verse Mormon missionaries like to use with promising converts… While the intro for this may seem light-hearted, the subject matter is anything but.
By and large Christians are a trusting group, and many times too much so. Taking people at face value, and thinking the best of others, too often Christians miss the tell-tale signs of danger lurking at the door. A few days ago we looked at the dangers of angels of light and our focus today is what they do to the flock.
Jesus said to beware of ravenous wolves who come to you in sheep’s clothing. If nothing else gets through with this post, I earnestly pray Christians will think about this – a lot.
Matthew 7:15; “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
The two words to hone in on with this verse are inwardly, and ravening. In the Greek inwardly means the very inner part, the core. Ravening means to extort. Extort, as you know, means to wrest away by violent force.
Get a visual in your head of what it’d look like if a wolf got into a sheep’s pen and the carnage that would ensue. This is a good visual of what happens to the spiritual life of those who are tricked by false teachers, and in this case; the Mormons.
This summation of who the false Christ is cannot be overstated. From cradle to grave Mormons are trained to lead others away from the Jesus of the Bible. From their very days in Primary singing sweet songs of their Mormon prophet Joseph Smith, they’re taught the God of the Bible is false, and Christianity was ‘hatched in hell’.*
One of the key ways to pick out a false teacher is to see whom they are promoting. For Mormons, it’s all about Joseph Smith.
Another key element of a false teacher is seen in the way they cause dissension within the ranks of Christianity. They try to isolate in order to fill your head with doubt, and then replace the role of a Savior with their own. Again, this would be their own Joseph Smith.
False teachers work like wolves do. They herd one sheep away from the flock, and then go in for the kill. They can’t take on the entire flock, so they isolate first. This is how it is with the Mormon Church. They knock on your door when no one else is around. Have you ever wondered why they’re knocking on the doors of an evangelized nation and not pounding the dirt roads of un-churched nations?
If they can convince you, the Christian, that Christianity is full of flaws and place doubts in your mind, they can then come in with tremendous lies about their prophet, and lies about you.
One more key element is how they play on emotions. The verse in Moroni is case in point. They want you to focus inwardly on yourself and how you feel, not what God says in His word. Again, this is another isolate, and destroy method.
This lie to focus on self is part and parcel in the game they play. If they can convince you that your feelings matter and your own ideas of what the Bible means, they’ve got one foot in the door, which in turn builds a barricade between you and the Lord. The lies about you are the outrageous lies they spread about Christianity.
Jesus is concerned about your thoughts and feelings, but feelings aren’t the way to judge whether or not the Bible is true.
In addition to the sneaky methods of how the Church works, their official take on this topic (feelings) is fraught with contradictions and confusion. Let’s compare the multiple contradictions on their own website alongside the ultimate authority; God’s word!
If the BoM is the most correct book on planet earth, why are there opposing doctrines between their prophets?
Moroni said we should look for a sign that’ll manifest in a physical manner with ‘burning in the bosom’. However, we see Alma’s stern warning that anyone seeking a sign is surely cursed.
Moroni 10:4; “…ask God…if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Alma 32:17-21; “Yea, there are many who do say: If thou wilt show unto us a sign from heaven, then we shall know of a surety; then we shall believe. 18 Now I ask, is this faith? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for if a man knoweth a thing he hath no cause to believe, for he knoweth it. 19 And now, how much more cursed is he that knoweth the will of God and doeth it not, than he that only believeth, or only hath cause to believe, and falleth into transgression? 20 Now of this thing ye must judge. Behold, I say unto you, that it is on the one hand even as it is on the other; and it shall be unto every man according to his work. 21 And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.”
Fast forward to Joseph Smith’s era, and you’ll find he gives a similar warning that we saw in Alma, along with some biblical verbiage.
Kirtland, Ohio, August 1831
D&C 63:7-11; “And he that seeketh signs shall see signs, but not unto salvation. 8 Verily, I say unto you, there are those among you who seek signs, and there have been such even from the beginning; 9 But, behold, faith cometh not by signs, but signs follow those that believe. 10 Yea, signs come by faith, not by the will of men, nor as they please, but by the will of God. 11 Yea, signs come by faith, unto mighty works, for without faith no man pleaseth God; and with whom God is angry he is not well pleased; wherefore, unto such he showeth no signs, only in wrath unto their condemnation.”
Again, Jesus warns us about false teachers when He said that only an evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign.
Don’t let Mormons place doubts in your head about the body of Christ because they’ll turn the tables and want you to only focus on your own idea of righteousness and not the Lord’s.
Matt 12:39; “But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas.”
Luke 11:29; “And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.”
*Christian Churches Hatched in Hell
Journal of Discourses 6:176; “Brother Taylor has just said that the religions of the day were hatched in hell. The eggs were laid in hell, hatched on its borders, and then kicked on to the earth.” – Brigham Young
