“I desire to share a few thoughts about a basic doctrine of the Church. What I say is
based on these convictions:
First: instruction vital to our salvation is not hidden…
Second: every verse, whether oft-quoted or obscure, must be measured against other verses…
Next: there is a consistency in what the Lord says and what He does…
Fourth: not all that God has said is in the Bible…
Fifth: while much must be taken on faith alone, there is individual revelation through which we may know the truth…
And I add one more conviction: there is an adversary who has his own channels of spiritual communication. He confuses the careless and prompts those who serve him to devise deceptive, counterfeit doctrine, carefully contrived to appear genuine.
I mention this because now, as always, there are self-appointed spokesmen who scoff at what we believe and misrepresent what we teach.” – Boyd K. Packer, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
2 Corinthians 4:1-4; “Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
The Lord has made it abundantly clear. We’re to defend the faith, renounce the evil doctrines that come about by the ungodly people who lie, and above all else, love Him totally and completely. Matthew 22:36-40.
Christians can’t be afraid – especially in today’s day and age – and always remember ‘greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world’ – 1 John 4:4.
The main problem with Mormonism is that everything is hidden. If they had told my husband Kirk the truth to begin with, he never would’ve joined the Church!
The other major problem is teaching that not everything God said is in the Bible – of course they would say this because they’re reserving the right to add stuff along the way that takes us away from God, and not towards Him.
