LDS Manual, Achieving a Celestial Marriage, p. 129; “The gospel of Jesus Christ teaches that man is an eternal being, made in the image and likeness of God … These truths are generally well understood by Latter-day Saints. Less well understood, however, is the fact that God is an exalted man who once lived on an earth and underwent experiences of mortality. The great prophet Joseph Smith refers to this as ‘the great secret.’”
Upon reading this quote from the LDS Church, my thoughts were flooded with numerous passages in God’s word refuting this ugly claim. Here are a few of them –
Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man…”
Isaiah 45:5 “I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me”.
Galatians 1:6 “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel”.
John 12:43 “For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.”
Ephesians 4:6 — “One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
2 Samuel 7:22 “Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.”
Questions –
Why is Joseph Smith referred to as ‘the great prophet’? If you’re LDS, what implication does this have on you personally?
Why would God keep secrets from us?
Why hasn’t the LDS Church expounded on this doctrine further? This manual stated;
‘…Less well understood, however, is the fact that God is an exalted man who once lived on an earth and underwent experiences of mortality…’
They’ve been around for almost 200 years. Isn’t this enough time to get more info from God about this?
While there will be many things we won’t know on this side of heaven, knowing how to get there shouldn’t be one of them.
