Mosiah 27:23 “And it came to pass after they had fasted and prayed for the space of two days and two nights, the limbs of Alma received their strength, and he stood up and began to speak unto them, bidding them to be of good comfort.”
Alma 36:10 “And it came to pass that I fell to the earth; and it was for the space of three days and three nights that I could not open my mouth, neither had I the use of my limbs.”
1 Thessalonians 5:21 “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
By the time a young Christian reaches high school age he’s probably been taught to memorize 1 Thess. 5:21, in addition to 1 John 4:1 (test the spirits).
The two verses we see in the BoM are exactly why we’re taught to be on guard. When someone lies, it won’t take long before their lies will show through just like this one.
At one point in the narrative, either Joseph Smith, or Alma, forgot there was no such thing as churches in 73 BC.
Adding insult to injury, they also forgot Mosiah had already shared this story 24 years earlier, but said Alma couldn’t walk or talk for two days, not three.
“Adding insult to injury, they also forgot Mosiah had already shared this story 24 years earlier, but said Alma couldn’t walk or talk for two days, not three.”
After reading the two Book of Mormon references, it is easy to see you are mistaken.
One account was of Alma being struck down for three days,
and the other account is of what Alma’s father had others do to help Alma recover.
Mosiah
Chapter 27:
20 And they rehearsed unto his father all that had happened unto them; and his father rejoiced, for he knew that it was the power of God.
21 And he caused that a multitude should be gathered together that they might witness what the Lord had done for his son, and also for those that were with him.
22 And he caused that the priests should assemble themselves together; and they began to fast, and to pray to the Lord their God that he would open the mouth of Alma, that he might speak, and also that his limbs might receive their strength—that the eyes of the people might be opened to see and know of the goodness and glory of God.
23 And it came to pass after they had fasted and prayed for the space of two days and two nights, the limbs of Alma received their strength, and he stood up and began to speak unto them, bidding them to be of good comfort:
24 For, said he, I have repented of my sins, and have been redeemed of the Lord; behold I am born of the Spirit.
Alma
Chapter 36:
10 And it came to pass that I fell to the earth; and it was for the space of three days and three nights that I could not open my mouth, neither had I the use of my limbs.
