The Life of Joseph Fielding Smith [1972], 364; “Joseph Smith is the revealer of the knowledge of Christ and of salvation to the world for this day and generation. … I, for one, want to be numbered forever among those who seek counsel and authority and blessings as they have come from this great prophet whom the Lord raised up to commence the restoration of all things in this final, glorious gospel dispensation”.
1 Corinthians 8:12; “But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ”.
It’s our duty as Christians to ensure information we share with unbelievers is true in every form. As Paul said, you’re sinning against Christ by teaching anything that could jeopardize a relationship with God. This goes for every Christian, from the unknown to the well known.
Furthermore, we also have the issue of determining who, or what, is the true revealer of truth. Is it Joe Smith, Sun Yung Moon, David Koresh, or what about your neighbor? If it’s not exclusively God, you should get in line because the title is up for grabs.
When Jesus came to earth He proclaimed the Kingdom of God was at hand, which in essence meant He was telling us something God wanted us to know! This wasn’t done in a closet, nor was it spoken of just once or twice. We see Jesus traveling throughout Israel spreading the news the Kingdom of God was at hand.
The phrase, ‘Kingdom of God’, shows up in the NT 68 times, and in the book of Matthew we find the term, ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ 32 times. Surely, Jesus was proclaiming that truth was being revealed with the advent of God’s kingdom on earth. Moreover, we can also glean from Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer that truth is found in God’s word.
John 17:17; “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
Joe Smith was a revealer of all sorts of things, but truth wasn’t one of them.
Finally beloved, please do remember to share Jesus’ sweet promise with the Mormon you know. Be sure to ask why their prophet (Joseph Fielding Smith) would contradict such an important event in the Bible!
