The LDS Church has listed the talk summaries of their upcoming General Conference, so we’re looking at what Mr. Dieter Uchtdorf had to share. His entire speech can be viewed at the link for the video presentation at the end of this article.
General Conference, ‘Fourth Floor, Last Door,’ October 2016; “
The purpose of faith is not to change God’s will but to empower us to act on God’s will. Faith is trust—trust that God sees what we cannot and that He knows what we do not. Sometimes, trusting our own vision and judgment is not enough. …
In light of that statement, we have a question for Mr. Uctdorf.
Why did Joseph Smith trust his own vision, and not God’s?
If you’re LDS, do you believe God would tell Joseph Smith there were no Christians on earth? Why would God say this when Jesus promised us the gates of hell wouldn’t prevail against His church in Matthew 16:18?
Faith means that we trust not only in God’s wisdom but that we trust also in His love. It means trusting that God loves us perfectly, that everything He does—every blessing He gives and every blessing He, for a time, withholds—is for our eternal happiness.
Again, we’re asking why Smith didn’t have this kind of faith? Why did he reject the word of God, and invent a new religion that totally defies God from top to bottom?
Helaman 12:3, which I believe is the theme of the Book of Mormon, if not Mormonism in general says;
“And thus we see that except the Lord doth chasten his people with many afflictions, yea, except he doth visit them with death and with terror, and with famine and with all manner of pestilence, they will not remember him.”
That is the sum total of Joe Smith’s brand of the gospel. This is what he offered to people, and many have bought into it hook, line, and sinker.
Moroni 9:4; “Behold, I am laboring with them continually; and when I speak the word of God with sharpness they tremble and anger against me; and when I use no sharpness they harden their hearts against it; wherefore, I fear lest the Spirit of the Lord hath ceased striving with them.”
2 Nephi 32:7; “And now I, Nephi, cannot say more; the Spirit stoppeth mine utterance, and I am left to mourn because of the unbelief, and the wickedness, and the ignorance, and the stiffneckedness of men; for they will not search knowledge, nor understand great knowledge, when it is given unto them in plainness, even as plain as word can be.”
Doctrines in the two verses seen here add to the reasons why Mormons are afraid to leave the Church. It’s as if God is always standing overhead with a sledgehammer just waiting for you to mess up…good grief!
Hebrews 13:5 tells us Jesus will never leave, nor forsake us. Why are Mormons falling for this gospel over Jesus’ promises to us?
With this kind of faith, though we may not understand why certain things happen or why certain prayers go unanswered, we can know that in the end everything will make sense. …
And this where is a most unfortunate, albeit popular, phrase in Mormonism comes into play; ‘I’ll find out when I get there’.
Until then, we walk by whatever faith we have, seeking always to increase our faith.
‘Whatever faith we have’? You’ve got to be kidding me!!!! How dismal. What a forlorn way of looking at life! And we wonder why depression runs so rampant in Utah???
Come now!
When you’re saved, you’re a child of the most High!
Sometimes, this is not an easy quest. Those who are impatient, uncommitted, or careless may find faith to be elusive. Those who are easily discouraged or distracted may hardly experience it. Faith comes to the humble, the diligent, the enduring.
Faith doesn’t ‘come to’ people. Faith is something you already have. You can have faith in Jesus, or have faith Christianity isn’t for you, but it’s not something that ‘happens’.
It comes to those who pay the price of faithfulness. …
‘Pay the price’? No Christian I know of thinks of their belief in the Lord as a burden that must be paid. It’s a joy, and a privilege, to believe in Him! It’s something we choose to do because of our love for, and devotion to the Lord. The only ‘price to be paid is regret if/when we’ve sinned against Him.
Christians have an innate love for Jesus, and this stems from the fact He first loved us. 1 John 4:19.
If the Mormon Church taught true Christianity, lessons would be focused on Jesus, or the historical footprint of God’s work throughout time. It wouldn’t always be about something that carries no weight of the meaningless talks, and teachings they come up with every week.
When was the last time they gave a lesson on the book of Ruth, or the mission trips of the original apostles? It seems their attention is focused on anything but truth from God’s word.
In our search for enduring faith, in our quest to connect with God and His purposes, let us remember the Lord’s promise: “Knock, and it shall be opened unto you” [Matthew 7:7]. …
How do Mormons know this is translated correctly?
Moreover, why are they on a quest to connect with God? Aren’t they the ‘One and Only True Church on the face of the earth’? What’s the deal with being on a quest to ‘connect’ with God if you’re the sole providers of Christianity?
God “rewards those who earnestly seek him” [Hebrews 11:6], but that reward is not usually behind the first door. So we need to keep knocking. Sisters, don’t give up. Seek God with all your heart. Exercise faith. Walk in righteousness.”
This man just contradicted himself! In Matthew 7:7 it says knock and the door will be opened. Why isn’t it opened now? Why must there be so many doors to open?
Please, pray for those who listened to this montage of lies that God will cause them to question this man’s poor advice!
Please list some talkes by people who speak for your church. And see if you can find some who teach your beliefs without compairing and contrasting it with LDS teachings. I would like to know where you think I should go, not where you think I should go from.
thank you,
fred
yeah, the people who speak for my church are those found in the Bible Fred.
If you don’t like our conversations here, no one’s forcing you to stay. We happily invite you to do so if you can be nice and not make personal insults. I’m sure you’re noticed how we don’t do that here – besides all this is a ruse to take focus away from the truth which is Christ Jesus and Him crucified.

One more thing Fred, you should take Mr. Nowlin up on his offer. It sounds like he has some great info he’s willing to share with anyone who wants to know the truth.
Thank you for the suggestion. I have seen Mr. Nowlin offering. It is just another try to prove Mormonism wrong.
Since you think Mormonism is wrong, you must think something else is correct. Am I wrong to ask you to share that with me?
