Location is everything. Gethsemane v. Calvary. Zechariah 12:10a; “And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn”
John 19:34-37; “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. 35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. 36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. 37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.”

The Messiah’s body would be pierced … God was speaking to Zechariah and Jesus was the one pierced. Surely this is a clear and definitive statement of the God who became man and died for our sins. Tragically the majority of mankind have denied this and will continue to do so for the rest of time.
Mormons aren’t alone in their rejection of God becoming man. While they believe Jesus died on the cross, the blood spilt there holds little to no spiritual meaning for them. Everywhere you look in Mormonism it’ll tell you Jesus paid for Adam’s sin (not man’s) in the Garden of Gethsemane. The cross was merely the tool that was used in procuring His death and nothing more.

Selected Writings of Daniel H. Ludlow: Gospel Scholars Series: pp. 243-244; “The Fifth and Sixth Days (Thursday and Friday)…The Savior’s statement “the hour is come” was soon followed by his leaving the upper room and proceeding to the Mount of Olives and to the Garden of Gethsemane, where occurred one of the most important and transcendent events in the history of the world. It was here that he atoned for the original transgressions of Adam and Eve, and it was here that he took upon himself the sins of all mankind upon the condition of repentance of their sins.”
