Acts 7:48 “Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet”.
MormonNewsroom.org, ‘Plans Unveiled for Salt Lake Temple Renovation,’ 19 April, 2019
“ …The temple will close December 29, 2019, and will remain closed for approximately four years while undergoing a major structural and seismic renovation. The temple is expected to reopen in 2024 with a public open house. …We promise that you will love the results,” said President Nelson. “They will emphasize and highlight the life, ministry, and mission of Jesus Christ in His desire to bless every nation, kindred, tongue and people.”
Acts 17:24-25 “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things”.
‘…We promise that you will love the results…’ were the operative words declared by LDS prophet, Russell Nelson, earlier this month.
In the Church’s typical fashion, they’re investing millions on their already extensive list of temples; albeit this time to retrofit, and renovate the aging Salt Lake Temple.
Brigham Young had the honor of plunging the ceremonial shovel into Salt Lake’s hard ground, making it Utah’s third temple. The other two were St. George, and Logan. The estimated final cost ran about four million dollars – not a small amount in 1893. The cost should have been shocking to members, alas, they weren’t allowed to vote on a budget. As an FYI, at that time (1900) the median yearly income in America was $449.
Fast forward 126 years, and it’s the same story, just a different day. In regards to incurred costs of the reno, the Washington Post reported that “Leaders declined to say how much the project will cost”.
Not a surprise for many we’re sure.
LDS members might love the results, but we’re wondering…what about the Lord? Moreover, what does the Church do about the scriptures listed above? Also think about all the money they could’ve given to local shelters, or worldwide shelters…the list could go on and on.
If you’re LDS, please know we’re praying for you! We hope you’ll question why the Church doesn’t answer questions about these costs, and also wonder why they’d build temple to begin with.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Oh, where do I begin… are they going to call on Bob Villa, or maybe the property brothers? They should air it on HGTV ! Will they remove the satanic symbols? Did their god reveal this to President Nelson? And yeah Michelle, I think the money could be better spent on something charitable.
So it’s a temple restoration, restoration. Okay, bad joke😄
“”Whereas ye know not what shall be on the tomorrow. For what is your life? It is a vapor, that appeareth for a little while and vanisheth away. For ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that.”(James 4:14,15)
“If any man among you seems religious and brideleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is in vain.” (James 1:26)
“But above all things my brethren, swear not by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any oath, but let your yea be yea and your nay be nay, lest you should fall into temptation.” (James 5:12)
As a Mormon, I have never understood the church’s penchant for building new temples. They build temples in areas where the LDS population is minimal at best. They just built a temple in Rome, Italy. How many active LDS members are there in Rome? What the church should be doing is building hospitals for elderly Mormons that can’t afford decent healthcare. I know a lot of older Mormons that have been life long tithe payers and are having difficulty receiving decent medial care.
Hey President Nelson, don’t tell me how much you love me and my family. Why not start showing it by taking care of your flock. “We that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves” (Romans 15:1)
The church is currently renovating the Mesa, Az Temple. I have no idea how much that renovation is going to cost. Within not too many feet of the temple, are homeless folks, people in that are in dire need of medical care. My question is, why not spend the money on helping humanity instead of spending money on another temple?
