April 28 – Jesus saves while we’re still sinners! Romans 5:8; “But God commandeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.
_____
Words can’t express the relief I feel in this verse alone! He didn’t save us “after all we can do” or wait to see what we could do for Him. Smith has publicly denied Jesus with his statements.
_____
“I do not want you to think that I am very righteous, for I am not. God judges men according to the use they make of the light which He gives them”. Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 303.
I am very sensitive or an empath I guess. Having been raised Mormon, plus a non nurturing and isolating childhood, I struggle still with forgiving myself, which goes against what Jesus gave us. Is that normal?
Hi Ellen!
We wanted to thank you for stopping by at Life After Ministries!
My heart just hurt when I read your note and it’s because at one time I could absolutely relate to what you’re saying.
Is it ‘normal’ to not forgive yourself? I’m sure you obviously know the answer to that because of the rest of your statement. 😉 Here’s the deal with that…
It’s not guilt you’re experiencing. It’s shame.
Years ago when I left the Church I prayed and prayed and prayed for Jesus to take that from me. I used to call it the ‘icky feeling’ simply because I had no other way to articulate what it was.
Then I began praying Mark 9:24 which says “And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” It helped! And during this I continued praying because I knew something just wasn’t right in my spirit… The Lord showed me something in His word I’ve never forgotten.
I wrote about this in our Mentoring Handbook. Here’s the link and further info for you. Please, keep us updated so we can know how to pray! 🙂

GUILT AND SHAME
Guilt and Shame are Never the Same.
It rhymes, making it easy to remember.
Guilt and God both begin with “G”. God convicts us of our sin – this is the guilt – we repent, and He remembers it no more as He promised us in Isaiah 43:25;
“I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”
Shame and Satan both begin with an “S”. Shame is death to the soul dear one! Shame is experienced when you repent for the same sin repeatedly.
Dictionary.com defines it this way –
‘…the painful feeling arising from the consciousness of something dishonorable, improper, ridiculous, etc., done by oneself or another to publicly humiliate or shame for being or doing something specified’.
