“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 [emp. added]
Fireside focuses on families Deseret News, February 7, 2005 Don’t put off having children, LDS Church apostle tells students
PROVO — College students should not put off creating families until they have completed all of their studies, an LDS Church apostle said Sunday. … Nelson made the statements during a Church Education System fireside broadcast
He urged college students …to visualize their life in 50 years.
By then, careers would be over and faith and families would be their focal points.
Broad minds and narrow waists would have traded places.
He urged his listeners to seek first to follow the teachings of the church before seeking wealth, which includes the commandment to create families. …” [emp. added]
Matthew 15:9 “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
Question:
Would a true prophet plagiarize part of what Jesus said to promote his own ideas?
By whose righteousness will we enter heaven? If we’re counting on our own, we won’t make it! Hence, needing a Savior!
Moreover, who’s telling the truth? Is it Jesus, or Mr. Nelson? Whom should you seek first?
We’re praying Mormons will seek the Lord first, and trust His words over a man-made commandment that families are required for entrance into heaven!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
I get furious when I read about the church pushing people to have kids right away. A number of years ago, a member of the 70, C. Scott Grow (real name, kid you not) spoke at our Stake Conference (fireside?) Anyway, he spoke for 90 minutes about how the members of the church are not doing enough as far as having more kids. He compared figures from 10 years ago to figures from today and said that Mormons today were now only have 3.5 kids per family, which was, in his words, totally unacceptable. He had this lady from our ward, get up and speak for 15 minutes about the joys of motherhood. She has 7 kids and a boatload of family problems She spoke from the heart, gave a pretty darn good talk. I asked her after the meeting, how much notice she had to prepare for her talk. She told me that.she had ZERO notice. She said that C. Scott Grow and the Bishop grabbed her as soon as she entered the building and told her they wanted her to give a talk on the joys of having lots of kids. Anybody that knew this poor lady knows that she was always overwhelmed with family problems, to include a husband attempting suicide.
The idea to bring kids into the world, despite financial hardships, emotional readiness, strong desire for parenthood etc, is just more craziness spewing forth from the mouths of people that have no business claiming they represent God. Most of these General Authorities represent what is best for the church, not for individual members
Hey soldiermp –
Do you remember the date of when that guy spoke at the Stake Conference? I’m collecting references for talks they’ve given on this to put in a page resource for our site. Any help you could give would be awesome – thanks! Michelle
Michelle> I could try . Im no longer attending church and my investigative resources might be limited. The Stake he spoke at wis called the”Val Vista Stake” and it is located in Gilbert, Arizona.
