June 22 – Ordinances. Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

The word ordinance is not in the Bible. However, it’s understood Christians do observe ‘sacraments’ based on what the Lord has told us. One of those is baptism, and the other is partaking of the Lord’s Supper. 1 Cor. 11:26. Anything outside of those two things gets dangerously close to a works for salvation based theology. As a kind Christian, you’ll want to remind your Mormon friend ordinances aren’t a means of salvation, rather, they’re a manifestation thereof. Salvation is a free gift to us from God, that can never be earned.
Sadly, as you’ll see today, Mormons don’t believe this at all. You could also ask them where Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were married, because they didn’t have Mormon temples back in those days.

Gospel Through the Ages, pp. 118-119 “CELESTIAL MARRIAGE—THE CROWNING GOSPEL ORDINANCE The crowning Gospel ordinance requisite for Godhood is celestial marriage. The doctrine of celestial marriage, as taught and practiced in the Church of Jesus Christ today, means temple marriage. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon, Moses, and—according to the Lord—“also many others of my servants from the beginning of creation until this time,” have known and practiced the law of celestial marriage…Marriage is not only a righteous institution, but obedience to this law is absolutely necessary in order to obtain the highest exaltation in the Kingdom of God.” – Milton R. Hunter
