“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive”. Ephesians 4:14
Today’s LDS reference is a recycled BYU Devotional from 2012 the Church republished in a recent Liahona Magazine. Their intended audience was once again focused on LDS kids, but this time they’re even younger.
We’re taking a look at just a couple of things in Mr. Bednar’s presentation so you can see how it’s not only contradictory to LDS canon, but the Bible as well. To read their article in full see link provided below.
Liahona, ‘Fear Not, I Am With Thee,’ June 2019 “As we exercise faith in Christ and trust in His promises, we can walk into the dark with the absolute assurance that our pathway will be illuminated—at least far enough to take the next step—and then the next step—and the next step.
Joseph Smith declared, “We have nothing to fear if we are faithful.” (Personal Writings of Joseph Smith, p. 338)
President Thomas S. Monson (1927–2018) counseled, “Fear not. Be of good cheer. The future is as bright as your faith.”(GC April 2009)
As you face your future in faith, the Savior will go before your face, will be on your right hand and on your left, and His Spirit shall be in your hearts (see Doctrine and Covenants 84:88) in all of your righteous endeavors and throughout all the days of your life.” — David Bednar
1.Christians who trust Jesus know full well their pathways will always be ‘illuminated’ from beginning to end.
Mr. Bednar’s explanation you’ll only see things if you’re ‘faithful’ is another threat. You can’t be faithful, and follow Jesus when you’re obeying the commands of LDS authorities who say ‘follow the prophet’ — Matthew 6:24.
2.The Christian’s path in life has already been well planned out no matter what extraneous circumstances may take place. We find our map, if you will, in the word of God. We don’t wait on the next conference in Salt Lake to hear what God requires of us! God is never dependent on man’s behavior to reveal His will to us.
3.Lastly beloved, Mr. Bednar also revealed one of the countless contradictions Joe Smith and company has tried to dole out over the past 190 years. He quoted D&C 84:88 where the Mormon god promises he’ll be in your heart. Later, however, in D&C 130:3 he declared the Mormon gods can’t live in your heart. Which story do you believe?
One thing is absolutely certain. The kids that read the Liahona Magazine this summer, and those who listened to Mr. Bednar 7 yrs ago, need for Christians to pray that Jesus will protect, and show them the truth!
Doctrine and Covenants 84:88 “And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.”
However …
Doctrine and Covenants 130:3 “John 14:23—The appearing of the Father and the Son, in that verse, is a personal appearance; and the idea that the Father and the Son dwell in a man’s heart is an old sectarian notion, and is false.”
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
“We have nothing to fear if we are faithful” , says Joe Smith. Translation, Stay true to the Mormon church and God will be good to you. Isn’t that how it is, even today? In the Mormon church, your standing in the eyes of God, as seen by your fellow church members, depends on how many times your name appears on the “Seeking Volunteers” list. It makes me furious when I see how guilt tripped members get because they don’t volunteer enough. The church gets so much free labor by telling it’s members, “if you want blessings from God, you have to work for them.”
