Salt Lake Trib, April 26, 2017 “In a 2017 BYU commencement address L. Whitney Clayton, a senior president of the LDS Church’s Quorums of the Seventy … encouraged students to be wary of former church members who have abandoned LDS teachings. …
“The faithless often promote themselves as the wise, who can rescue the rest of us from our naiveté,” Clayton said. “We should disconnect, immediately and completely, from listening to the proselytizing efforts of those who have lost their faith, and instead reconnect promptly with the holy spirit.”
1 Corinthians 15:33 “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”
Melissa e-mailed me the other day asking if I had read the Salt Lake Trib article noted above, and since I hadn’t we’re looking at it today!
No doubt, the message in a pastor’s sermon carry weight. Twenty-six years of Christianity has afforded me the opportunity of listening to some great sermons over the years. Without the sage advice from God’s people, I’m certain I’d be less of a loving Christian than I am today.
I can recall many times when a pastor has reminded a congregation of what God’s word says when believers don’t follow the Lord. The gradual change in a person’s demeanor comes to light after years of not walking with Him.
With that said, I don’t recall a sermon where a pastor has told listening ears to stay away from a certain people group. Historically, Christians have always looked for opportunities to share the great news of Jesus’ gospel. What is there to fear if you’re worshiping the true God of the Bible?
As we’ve pointed out many times, advising young impressionable minds to disassociate from ‘ex-Mormons’ is another sign of a cult. We spoke about this in a recent post with Neil Andersen’s talk, and in a 2011 article on our site – Signs of a Cult.
As always, we’re begging our Christian friends to pray for these dear people! How sad it is they’ve been bombarded from all aspects of life with these lies and instructions, to stay away from ex-Mormons. They’ve planted seeds of paranoia into the minds of these young people. If this isn’t heartbreaking, I don’t know what is.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
There is a “SPIRIT OF FEAR” within in the LDS Community over people leaving the church. The reason people are leaving, in my opinion, is because of what they have learned about the church via the internet.
“God has not given us a SPIRIT OF FEAR, but of power, love and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
I talked to a lady yesterday that is an active Mormon and member of my former ward. This lady is elderly *82 years old) abd super nice. She told me how much everybody in church missed me. I told her I had found a new home in a Baptist Church. She smiled, told me that was OK as long as I was walking with Jesus. She then wished me good luck. Super lady; no lectures, reprimands, warnings etc. Just a loving, kind person that wants the best for me. I wish all members responded that way to former members
2 Corinthians 6:14: “Be ye not yoked together with unbelievers.for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness and what communion hath light with darkness?”
According to Romans 3:22 in particular, although the entire chapter of Romans 3 is devoted to the subject of Righteousness as defined and seen thru the eyes of God. God defines righteousness as Faith in Jesus Christ. Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him as righteousness (Romans 4:2,3).
In essence; Mr clayton is telling the folks at BYU to avoid “Born Again, Christ Centered, Living by FAITH, Bible believing and Bible reading Christians everywhere. In other words, it’s not about the Brotherhood/Sisterhood of Christ, it’s all about protecting our little sanctuary of Joseph Smith Worshipping Cultists
In other words, anybody that is not LDS, AVOID!!!
