Discourses of Brigham Young, pp. 665-666 “…I am satisfied that it will not do for the Lord to make this people popular. Why? Because all hell would want to be in the Church. The people must be kept where the finger of scorn can be pointed at them. What is the reason of this?
Christ and Baal cannot become friends. When I see this people grow and spread and prosper I feel there is more danger than when they are in poverty. Being driven from city to city . . . is nothing compared to the danger of becoming rich and being hailed by outsiders as a first-class community. … I am afraid of only one thing. What is that? That we will not live our religion… 12:272.” — Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, August 16, 1868

Ephesians 4:14 “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”
It looks as if Brigham’s worst fears came true. For those who aren’t aware of the code phrase, ‘Live your religion’, it simply means polygamy. Now what?
If the Saints had just followed the Lord, and not man, they wouldn’t have been driven from place to place. We’re also wondering why the Church would use Brigham’s discourse in 2001 for their church news article.
What purpose did it serve people like my mother who hangs on every word that proceeds from the mouths of these men?
In Mormonism today, ‘living your religion’ is more aligned with being temple worthy Saints of the 21st century, than what Brigham was talking about. The shame in their news brief is how they were fully aware of what the phrase means. Shame on them!
Their ‘news’ falls into the same category of Hugh Nibley’s comment we looked at yesterday; false piety. This is but another picture of how they went out of their way to deceive.
If they really wanted to share historical facts, they could’ve shown how the Lord grew His church over the course of 2,000 years.
Share the truth with a Mormon today!

“Who art thou to judge another man’s servant? To his own master he standeth or falleth.yea, he shall be held up, for God is able to make him stand.” (Romans 14:4)
Who in the heck did Brigham think he was? The more I read about this man, the things he has said and done, the more I believe he was evil personified
