General Conference, ‘Obedience Brings Blessings,’ April 2013 “Declared President Joseph F. Smith in October 1873, “Obedience is the first law of heaven.” [“Discourse,” Deseret News, Nov. 12, 1873, 644.]” — Thomas Monson
Matthew 22:36-40 “Master, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
The short quote by Thomas Monson reveals quite a lot doesn’t it? Not only did he propagate false info on what our Lord proclaimed, his predecessor did so as well. To read the rest of his false teachings on this topic, see link above.
We’ve provided this quick info to bring attention to all of LDS teachings. If Mr. Monson, and Mr. Smith couldn’t get this simple thing correct, how could you trust anything else they taught?
Pray for Mormons to question things like this. It’s obvious that their lies still permeate Mormon teachings today. They had 140 years to correct the false info, yet they chose to repeat the lie!

“IF YOU LOVE ME, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15). We follow Jesus not because we strive to be obedient, but rather because we love the Lord and want to do what he asks us to do. It’s about love, not obedience. Also, it is God’s spirit that dwells in us, that gives the power and the desire to do what the Lord would have us do. (Read: Philippians 2:13)
The Old Sarge here with another comment about the Mormon fixation on obedience and exactness (perfection). I can’t tell you how many times the Old Sarge has sat in a Sacrament Meeting and wound up feeling SO SORRY for the person giving the Sacrament Prayer. If one little word is mispronounced or a person stutters or speaks a single word out of context, the whole prayer needs to be repeated. I have seen adult men, with wives and kids in attendance, experience the humiliation of having to repeat this prayer numerous times. The Mormons recite this Sacrament Prayer like they would if casting a spell. If the prayer is not said exactly right, God won’t honor the prayer. God knows the thoughts and intents of the person’s heart reciting that prayer. It’s not about proper grammar, it’s about having your heart right before he Lord. (Hebrews 4:12)
