Journal of Discourses 3:49-50 “Do you not suppose that it is necessary to have devils mixed up with us, to make Saints of us? We are as yet obliged to have devils in our community, we could not build up the kingdom without them. Many of you know that you cannot get your endowment without the devil’s being present; indeed we cannot make rapid progress without the devils. I know that it frightens the righteous sectarian world to think that we have so many devils with us, so many poor, miserable curses. Bless your souls, we could not prosper in the kingdom of God without them.” — Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, October 6, 1855
Romans 8:5-6 “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
We pray that if you’re LDS you’d ask yourself a few questions about the temple endowment ceremony.
Although Brigham delivered this speech 164 years ago, the practice of someone pretending to be the devil in temple ceremonies is still intact. For more info, see Endowment Ceremonies.
Why would a place that’s supposed to be holy have Satan’s presence there? Did he receive a temple recommend?
If you have to live up to a certain standard to get a temple recommend, why would you want Satan there?
If we’re to shun even the appearance of evil, why spend the time communicating with evil? 1 Thess. 5:22
Oh how we pray you’ll think upon these things, and know that God doesn’t need anything, let alone Satan. Acts 17:25
Matthew chapter four tells us about Jesus rebuking him. Why has the Church invited him into their presence?
We pray you’ll turn to Jesus for salvation dear one, and know that the Jesus of the Bible doesn’t reside inside temples. Acts 7:48
He takes up residence in the hearts of believers! John 14:23

One of the weirdest teachings ever!
Isn’t it though? Sigh…
For me,the whole endowment ceremony felt evil. I can honestly say that I never felt God’s presence inside the temple. Mormons have to continually remind each other of how wonderful the whole temple experience is. They do this to convince each other that the temple is God’s holy place. Personally, I believe the devil has a large presence in every LDS Temple
In the temple endowment ceremony Adam asks Satan about the apron…he replies ” it is an emblem of MY power and priesthood”.
Wait??? Who’s power??? Who else wears the “apron” in the temple? The priesthood holders…right?
Yep, the priesthood holder. Scary isn’t it? It’s sad beyond words that they’re not seeing this.
Also, I forget to mention…it kinda reminds me of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.
“There are no windows and no doors…But there’s always my way out ha ha ha”! — Ghost host.
The Old Sarge loves your analogy. LOL!!!
