The Church went out of its way this month in confusing the minds of small children. This time around, they used their monthly periodical, ‘Friend’, with an activity game for kids to match images with a corresponding teaching. Today we have questions about some of those images, and asking why they’d target the most vulnerable.
One of the images depicts three crosses on a hill with the caption ‘Because Jesus felt all our pain…’ and kids were directed to match it with the box stating ‘He understands us perfectly’.
First of all, their tactics aren’t just disingenuous, they’re outright deceitful.
The Church has preached against the cross since its inception! Using images of the cross in this manner is shameful indeed. Their 10th prophet (Joseph Fielding Smith) taught that the cross is repugnant.
If the Church had been sincere in this article, they would’ve pointed directly to the cross to explain how, and why, we’re forgiven of sins. However…
The Church doesn’t believe Jesus paid for our sins on the cross. Here’s what Joe Smith’s false prophecy says in Doctrine and Covenants 19:18 —
“Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—”
That scenario supposedly took place in the Garden of Gethsemane, not on the cross at Calvary.
Secondly, another image shows Jesus kneeling in prayer with the caption, ‘Because Jesus paid for our sins…’. This was supposed to correspond with another box stating, ‘…we can repent and be forgiven.’
Again, this has to do with Smith’s false prophecy from D&C 19:18. This is a classic example of how the Church uses one verse to look good, but their hearts are filled with deception. As stated earlier, if they were sincere, they would’ve pointed to the cross!
Pray for those who read the Friend this month – that goes for both the kids and parents alike.

As an FYI, we discovered an error in the image and have updated it.
I don’t think there is anything about religion that Mormons WON’T lie about!
You’re absolutely right. And that’s a sad thing as well. 🙁
