Ensign, “The Power of the Priesthood,” May 2010, 9–10 “Every law and principle and power, every belief, every ordinance and ordination, every covenant, every sermon and every sacrament, every counsel and correction, the sealings, the calls, the releases, the service—all these have as their ultimate purpose the perfection of the individual and the family, for the Lord has said, ‘This is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man’ (Moses 1:39).” — Boyd K. Packer
Romans 16:18 “For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”
This man’s talk reminded me of the sign that once hung over the entrance of Auschwitz — ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’. In English it means, ‘Work Makes You Free’. It was a slam to the Jewish prisoners of Auschwitz, as everyone knew the only freedom they’d experience was through death.
In similar fashion, the damning doctrine of salvation through works is dangled like a prize enticing LDS members to try their luck at godhood.
Mr. Packer’s laundry list of 15 items were but a snapshot of the never ending works one must do for salvation if you’re Mormon.
The untold story in his lie is that God doesn’t accept any of them. Moreover, Mr. Packer’s real intent was to lead people to anything but true salvation found only in Christ Jesus. Not one time did He mention the name of Jesus in the long list of must-do’s. What happened to Jesus?
We posted this glance at a past General Conference to remind people that what they’ll see and hear in this weekend’s conference will be much of the same as it was ten years ago.
Pray for those listening to this conference to open their Bibles and compare God’s word with what they’ll say this weekend.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
If we had the capability to be perfect…why would we need Jesus?
