The Improvement Era, Vol. 55, No. 11, November 1952, p. 789 “Some Principles of a Happy Home … There is nothing temporary in the home of the Latter-day Saints. There is no element of transitoriness in the family relationship. To the Latter-day Saint the home is truly the basic unit of society; and parenthood is next to Godhood. The secret of good citizenship lies in the home. The secret of instilling faith in God, faith in his Son, the Redeemer of the world, faith in the organizations of the Church, lies in the home.” — David O. McKay
Isaiah 43:10-11 “Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, And my servant whom I have chosen: That ye may know and believe me, And understand that I am he: Before me there was no God formed, Neither shall there be after me. 11 I, even I, am the Lord”.
Luke 17:2 “It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.”
Being a parent requires a lot of patience, and if you want kids to grow up into adults who love the Lord, a lot of time is needed to share the gospel with them. There isn’t a little kid alive who doesn’t think their parents controls the rising, and setting of the sun. That is until they figure it out…
The top priority of every parent should always include truth. If you lie about any little thing, they have the memory of an elephant.
If you’re going to teach kids about the Lord, and His word, why would you send conflicting messages? The Bible clearly states there is only ONE God. While Mr. McKay’s message was directed toward adults, the implication is that his directives are intended to trickle down to the kids.
Lastly, why would you teach kids to have faith in an organization? Although written in 1952, this mindset is still very much part, and parcel of Mormonism today.
Please, continue to pray for those who are ensnared in these lies – and for Jesus to intervene!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
