1 Peter 1:25 “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”
Journal of Discourses 2:75-76 “The words contained in this Bible are merely a history of what is gone by; it was never given to guide the servant of God in the course he should pursue, any more than the words and commandments of God, given to a generation under one set of circumstances, would serve for another generation under another set of circumstances…The Bible is not a sufficient guide; it is only the history of the people who lived 1800 years ago. The history of our Church in this day, presents the scenes and transactions of this people—the revelations and words of God to them…” – Orson Hyde, Salt Lake City, October 6, 1854
But 157 Years Later…
The Power of Scripture “…We have ready access to this guidance through the treasure we call the standard works—that is, the Old and New Testaments, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.
Because scriptures are generated from inspired communication through the Holy Ghost, they are pure truth.
We need not be concerned about the validity of concepts contained in the standard works since the Holy Ghost has been the instrument which has motivated and inspired those individuals who have recorded the scriptures. … The scriptures provide the strength of authority to our declarations when they are cited correctly. …
Their use provides a foundation of truth that can be awakened by the Holy Ghost. … A memorized scripture becomes an enduring friend that is not weakened with the passage of time.” — Richard G. Scott, October 2011
My heart breaks for the LDS people. They’ve been fed a steady diet of lies to mistrust the Bible, and then given a rogue message by a ‘latter-day’ apostle to rely on God’s word. The example of Mr. Hyde’s talk is a microcosm of what they’ve taught over the past 191 years with the publication of their Book of Mormon.
If you’re LDS, which apostle do you believe?
Be sure to explain to your Mormon friends/loved ones why the Bible is reliable, and how you use it in your life each day!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
