Joseph Smith Papers, Minutes and Discourses, June 9, 1842, pp. 61-63 “…if one member suffer all feel it— by union of feeling we obtain pow’r with God. Christ said he came to call sinners to repentance and save them. Christ was condemn’d by the righteous jews because he took sinners into his society— he took them <up>on the principle that they repented of their sins.
It is the object of this Society to reform persons, not to take those that are corrupt, but if they repent we are bound to take them and by kindness sanctify and cleanse from all unrighteousness, by our influence in watching over them— nothing will have such influence over people, as the fear of being disfellowship’d by so goodly a Society as this.
… The nearer we get to our heavenly Father, the more are we dispos’d to look with compassion on perishing souls— [we feel that we want] to take them upon our shoulders and cast their sins behind our back. [My talk is intended for] all this Society—if you would have God have mercy on you, have mercy on one another.” …
Sisters of this Society, shall there be strife among you? I will not have it— you must repent and get the love of God. Away with self-righteousness. The best measure or principle to bring the poor to repentance is to administer to their wants— the Society is not only to relieve the poor, but to save souls.” — Joseph Smith
Luke 19:10 “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Romans 4:5 “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”
We’re using the LDS reference above as a segue for a post tomorrow which is a talk given by a member of the Relief Society who relied heavily on a speech given by Joe Smith in June 1842. Today we’re taking a quick look at the circumstances of what was going on in Smith’s world, and comparing what he said, with the Bible.
As you can see above, Smith had no problem with doing just the opposite of what Jesus did when He accepted sinners.
Smith also thought members of the RS held powers to not only forgive sins, but to save sinners as well. However, the Bible verses above tell a much different story!
Furthermore, while Smith was busy advising women on how to behave, he was married to at least 18 women. For the record, everyone but Emma supposedly knew. See Lies of the RS.
Please, pray for members to see this, and the talk tomorrow for the lies they are!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Actually, he was married to over 30 women, exact number(s) vary. The fact that he spoke of the RS being able to forgive and cast away sins, is very troubling. Had any of the members of Smith’s Relief Society been well versed in scripture, they would have known that Smith was a false prophet, a dark spirit, disguising himself as being from God’s Holy light, a wolf in sheeps clothing, desiring to feast on the ignorance of others. ,
“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine, . Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will tur their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths” (2 Timothy 4:3,4)
