No Christian would entertain the idea to look elsewhere for someone to lead in all aspects of their life. It’s a comforting thought knowing we can rest in Him because He’s in charge. The Bible tells of the trouble that Israelites got themselves into when they demanded a king. Although God told Samuel not to bend to their demands, they ended up anointing Saul as their king. 1 Samuel 8–10 tells us of the downward spiral this sent the entire nation into.
Fast forward to the early 19th century where another group of people have proclaimed, they follow the Lord. Instead of holding fast to God’s fulfilled promises, they dethroned Jesus, and anointed Joseph Smith as their king.

Joseph will be Prophet, Priest and King The Essential Joseph Smith, p 201 “Last Monday Morning certain men came to me. “Bro[ther] Joseph[,] Hyrum is no prophet. He can’t lead the church” You must lead the church. If you resign [, etc.] I felt curious and said here we learn in [the church about] a priesthood after the order of Melchisedeck [sic] —Prophet, Priest and King, and I will advance from Prophet to Priest and then to King not to the kingdoms of this Earth but of the most High God.”
