“And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Mark 4:40-41
Christmas Devotional, ‘The Prince of Peace’, December 12, 2020 “In Mark chapter 4 of the New Testament, the Savior’s disciples had a frightening experience. They were on a ship with the Savior on the Sea of Galilee when a huge storm arose.
The disciples were frightened, and the Savior spoke to them, saying, “Why are ye so fearful?
Where is your faith?”2 With a voice command, the Savior caused the winds and the waves to be still. The disciples then asked this poignant question that I ask you to ponder this Christmas:
“What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”3
I will attempt to answer this question. Jesus Christ is the “[Wonderful Counsellor], the mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”4 “By him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created.”5
He is our Savior and our Redeemer; He is the Firstborn of the Father.” — Brent H. Nielson
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
John 1:1, 14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Year after year, the LDS Church goes to elaborate lengths in producing annual Christmas devotionals. Although they’re typically meant for their youth groups, any member of the Church is welcome to listen to the broadcast. This year they had three devotionals, one of which we’re looking at today. We left their references intact, and listed them at the end of this article.
We have a few concerns about Mr. Nielson’s devotional which are listed below –
1.Why did Mr. Nielson use scripture when they believe the word of God can’t fully be trusted?
2.Why did Mr. Nielson use the passage in Isaiah 9:6 when they don’t believe Jesus is God incarnate?
3.Why did Joseph Smith plagiarize part of God’s word, when he said the Bible was missing many parts of the original translation, and then claim it was a revelation from God on February 16, 1832?
4.Why did Joe Smith declare in D&C 76:24 everything was created through Jesus? They don’t believe Jesus, or God for that matter, created the earth. The Church claims they could only organized elements already in existence. See Reasons to Leave Mormonism on earth’s creation –
Teachings of the prophet Joseph Smith, p. 350 “Now I ask all who will hear me, why the learned men who are preaching salvation, say that God created the heavens and earth out of nothing? The reason is, that they are unlearned in the things of God…Now, the word create came from the word “bara”, which does not mean to create out of nothing; it means to organize…God never had the power to create the spirit of man at all.”
While this is still on the front page of the LDS website, be sure to ask the Mormon you know for their opinion about it!
One last thing…
Mr. Nielson asked members to think about what the Savior said to the disciples in Mark 4:40-41. With all humbleness, we’re asking the same thing. What are you afraid of by rejecting what the Bible says?
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
